Nitrous Oxide / Laughing Gas
In dentistry, nitrous oxide/laughing gas is used since a long time because of its analgesic, calming, resp. anxiolytic effect for the treatment of fearful patients and children.
Therefore, the patient is administered a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) via a small nasal mask. A big advantage is, that the relaxing and analgesic effect starts quickly and can also be reversed quickly. Thus, the patient can leave the practice alone and in full consciousness after a short time.
