Emergency dentist in Zug

We’re there for you!

An emergency that requires you to visit your dentist in Zug promptly can have different origins. Pain, swelling or pus discharge are signs of inflammation, e.g. caused by an infection of a tooth or gums. An increased pressure, resp. Tenderness to touch of the affected region is also typical.
An accidental deep tooth fracture or the loss of a tooth are also emergencies. It is particularly important to store the broken or lost tooth properly until the appointment with the doctor, because the part can often be reattached or the tooth re-implanted. A so-called tooth rescue box is best suited for storage, or cold milk or saliva as a makeshift solution.
Last but not least, heavy (post-)bleeding, which you cannot stop yourself, can represent an emergency. There are many reasons for an urgent visit to the dentist.

If you or someone close to you has suffered a dental accident, you should immediately contact your dentist, because even supposed minor accidents can lead to serious complications. Of course, we will do our best to provide you with an appointment as quickly as possible.

How to behave properly in the event of a tooth accident

Your behavior in the event of a dental accident is decisive for how well your dentist can treat the injury and restore damaged teeth. Your first actionin an emergency should be:

  • Stop bleeding by pressing a cloth over the wound and applying a pressure bandage.
  • Put knocked-out teeth in a so-called tooth rescue boxor in cold milk. If you don’t have any milk, you can use physiological saline or saliva to insert the tooth
  • Do not clean teeth that have been knocked out. If it is very dirty, briefly hold the tooth or tooth piece under running water
  • Do not touch a knocked out tooth by the root
  • Contact your dentist in Zug

If you have the impression that the injury is more serious, go straight to a hospital:

  • Large open wounds
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Bone fractures (jaw, face, etc.)
  • Signs of concussion (unevenly dilated pupils, dizziness, vomiting)

Information needed in the event of a tooth accident

Your emergency dental service will then need the following information from the patient:

  • What happened exactly?
  • When did the accident happen?
  • Have teeth been injured, displaced or even knocked out?
  • Are soft tissues like the mouth, lips or tongue also injured?
  • Age of the patient?
  • For children: does the emergency affect milk teeth or permanent teeth?
  • Does the patient have allergies, especially to antibiotics, anesthetics or painkillers?

How is a dental accident treated?

If teeth have shifted or become loose, you should see a dentist as soon as possible. The dentist may be able to put the tooth back in place and fix it in place with a splint. In the case of milk teeth, your dentist will also clarify whether the milk tooth that was knocked in has damaged any permanent teeth that are already under or behind the milk teeth.

Milk teeth that have been knocked out are usually not put back in. If the child does not otherwise have a serious injury, rapid treatment within hours is not necessary. Nevertheless, you should visit your dentist in the near future so that the accident can be reported to the insurance company. If you are unsure: just give us a call – we will be happy to advise you!

Permanent teeth that have been fully knocked out may be able to be reinserted. You should make an emergency appointment with the dentist within a few hours of the accident. Observe the rules of conduct described above:

  • Do not touch the tooth by the root
  • If the tooth is very dirty, only clean it briefly under running water, do not disinfect it
  • Put the tooth in a tooth rescue box, in cold milk or in saliva

Just as important: notify your insurance company

Whether you have suffered a dental accident or are facing another emergency that requires emergency dental service, you should call your insurance company. For children, the costs are covered by the compulsory basic health insurance. Especially in the case of dental accidents affecting milk teeth, remember that consequential damage can occur in permanent teeth. The consequences may only become visible and/or noticeable much later. The dental treatment is then normally also covered by the insurance company as consequential damage.
